READING
AND LANGUAGE ARTS The following disciplines fit under this heading:
Handwriting, Spelling, Phonics, English, Writing, Journalizing, Reading
(both orally and silently), Comprehension of what is read. A large portion of our
curriculum, and therefore our day, is devoted to this subject. Students will develop
dramatically in these areas throughout this year. In handwriting they
will review the entire manuscript alphabet and be introduced to the cursive alphabet.
Spelling words will gradually become more difficult. The students' understanding of proper
English, both when speaking and when writing, will improve. Students will increase their
ability to write creative stories as well as letters, reports, or factual information. The
students' ability to read longer passages and comprehension of their reading will improve
as well.
RELIGION This year is a very important one for us because we will be
learning about Jesus and the Mass as we prepare for First Penance and First Holy
Communion!
MATHEMATICS
 Students will concentrate on the following skills:
Place Value, Addition, Subtraction, Money, Time, Geometry, Measurement, Fractions, Regrouping (Very important) , and Beginning Multiplication
SCIENCE
Students will learn facts and do experiments concerning the following
topics: Dinosaurs, Insects, Electricity, Magnets, Space, Nutrition, Skeletal System,
Matter, Weather, and Plants
SOCIAL
STUDIES 
Students will study the following units:
Neighborhoods, Communities, Wants & Needs, Rules & Laws, Continents &
Globes, Map skills, Early U.S. History, and Holidays & Famous Americans

YOU CAN HELP YOUR CHILD
Provide your student with an appropriate place to do homework and with any
necessary supplies. Provide your student with proper sleep and nutrition in order that they will be alert and
prepared to learn. Show an interest in your child's day. Ask detailed questions. Communicate with us whenever necessary!
