RELIGION:
We will
learn five new prayers including the Prayer to the Holy Spirit; the Acts of Faith, Hope,
and Love; and the Angelus. We will examine
morality by studying and memorizing the Ten Commandments.
We will review and explore the beliefs of our Catholic faith.
We will study Sacred Scripture and relate it to
our lives. We will review and encourage an
attitude of worship and the importance of the Sacraments.
MATH:
New Houghton Mifflin math series: review of addition and subtraction;
development of multiplication and division algorithms, geometry, measurement, statistics,
probability, problem solving, graphing, and fractions.
SCIENCE:
Units include Living Things (plant and animal growth and adaptation plus
raising monarchs), Earthquakes and Volcanoes, The Oceans, Electricity and Magnetism, Matter and Its Changes, Human Body Systems
(digestive and circulatory).
4th Grade students study
animal adaptation, as part of the Science
curriculum.
Monarch
caterpillars are raised in the 4th grade
classroom so the students can
witness the miracle of metamorphosis first
hand!
SOCIAL STUDIES:
Regions of the U.S., states and capitals, plus Nebraska history.
READING: Use of basal texts and trade books to build students reading
abilities, comprehension, reasoning abilities and vocabulary base.
ENGLISH:
Fourth grade English is a combination of grammar and writing.

Improvement Notebook
Each 4th Grade
classroom has a notebook to keep track of
student behavior each week. Skills
include: Supplies Forgotten, Late Work,
Talking, Talking Out, Inattentive, Dress
Code, Bully Behavior / Verbal, and Bully
Behavior / Physical.
Girls and Boy Town Life Skills
We are implementing a new social skills
program this year. The Girls and Boys Town
Program provides proactive teaching of 16 life skills (see last page), specific methods of
praise for demonstration of skills, and specific methods of corrective teaching of skills
not demonstrated. This program will be
implemented in the entire school over this year.
Miscellaneous
If a student is absent, homework
can be sent to the office or a sibling.
Please
tell the office your wishes when you call in the morning.
For unfinished assignments
students are required to pull a ticket and finish them during recess time.
Take home folders, including
papers and messages, are brought home on Thursdays.
Major
tests should be signed. Test and folders
should be returned on Friday or Monday.

Fourth Grade has three 25 minute
keyboarding
classes per week in the computer lab.
