JUNIOR
ACHIEVEMENT In sixth grade, students will be participating in Junior Achievement.

MATH decimals!
SCIENCE Life, Physical, and Earth Students will be learning about cells, plants, electricity, light, sound, the earth, and
biomes. In January, the students will be participating in the Science Fair. Towards the end of the year, the students will be studying Health in place of Science.
READING The reading curriculum includes reading stories from the text book, vocabulary study,
reading skills, practice book pages, and literature books. The students are also
required to read one book per quarter matching the theme of the text stories.
Literature books will be read in a small group format with the teacher and individually.
Vocabulary Study: Students will be required to keep a log of vocabulary words from
both text stories and literature groups. Vocabulary logs will be kept in their
copybook.
GEOGRAPHY Geography will include map skills, note-taking skills, enrichment activities, workbook
pages, text study, country studies, and current events. In Current Events
we investigate WHO? WHAT? WHEN? WHERE? and WHY?
SPELLING Spelling will include a pretest on Mondays and a posttest on Fridays. Worksheets
will count as part of the grade and will be due each Friday.
RELIGION For daily work, the pages out of the workbook will be graded each week. Students are
also expected to know the prayers that are required for students at the sixth grade level,
and will be tested orally or with pencil and paper.
LANGUAGE ARTS The Language Arts curriculum includes Literature, English, Oral Language, Creative
Writing, Spelling, and Handwriting. English will include parts of speech, mechanics,
grammar, punctuation, and capitalization.
